FAQs

What exactly do you mean by “arthouse cinema”?

We’ll show the occasional studio hit (if we think it’s really worth seeing!). Examples: Barbie, Oppenheimer, Devil Wears Prada 2.  Mainly, we show movies you’re unlikely to find at a typical multiplex — independent films, international cinema, documentaries, restorations, cult favorites, emerging filmmakers, and unforgettable classics. We champion bold storytelling, fresh perspectives, and films that spark conversation long after the credits roll. Alongside new releases, we curate special series, community events, filmmaker conversations, and one-of-a-kind moviegoing experiences for curious audiences of all kinds.

Who’s picking these movies?

Our film program is curated by our Kan-Kan Cinema team led by Artistic Director Daniel Arthur Jacobson and Senior Manager of Film Exhibition, Gabe Ellington—movie lovers who hope to fill a void in the local cinema landscape while also choosing films that reflect the cultural sensibilities and address the social issues that affect Indianapolis.

Is it a dine-in theater?

Unfortunately not. There is a standalone pizza shop that resides in the Kan-Kan. You don’t have to buy a movie ticket to eat (or drink) here. But you certainly can make a night of it by coming in for dinner and a movie, or just drinks and conversation anytime. We have a concession stand for movie-goers and you can bring your beer or cocktail into the theatre.

So, there’s a restaurant?

Yes! The restaurant is a Neapolitan-style by the slice pizza shop, The Final Cut by King Dough. The restaurant is open every night 5pm-9pm, and until 10pm on Friday and Saturday. It’s not a formal sit-down restaurant anymore. There is plenty of open seating, no reservation required.

I’m a member. How do I “log in”?

Easy! If you are an existing member, when you’ve selected the movie you want to attend, click the Sign In/Register link at the top of the page. Be sure to use the same email address used to create your membership. Once signed in, the system will apply your membership benefits to your ticket purchase. If you have any trouble accessing your account (or can’t quite remember which email address you used – it happens) email us (hello@kankanindy.com) or show up to the theater!

I live nearby. Do I qualify for a neighbor membership?

While we very much believe that you’re our neighbor in a cosmic/Mr. Roger’s neighborhood sense, only residents of Windsor Park are eligible for a neighbor membership. To redeem a neighbor membership, swing by the theater with some ID and proof of address and we’ll get you signed up!

Parking?

Yes. We have a free parking lot. When full, parking can be found immediately to the west on State Street, and on the north side of the Library on Nowland Ave.

I have tickets for a movie but can no longer attend – can I get an an exchange or refund?

All sales are final – make sure you are picking the right showtime when purchasing your tickets. Exceptions may be made due to weather and extenuating circumstances. If you have questions, you can contact hello@kankanindy.com.

Can I rent out a theater?

Yes, depending on the request. We typically are booked a few months in advance. Email hello@kankanindy.com with your request and we’ll get back to you ASAP.

Can I book an event space for parties and meetings?

Yes! Reach out directly to sam.bowden@kankanindy.com.

What is the accessibility like?

We got you. Our theaters and whole building are ADA accessible & we have assistive devices for those with low hearing, low vision or are hearing impaired. Please check available accessibility device options on each film’s ticketing page. When you arrive to the theater, let one of our employees know & we’ll get you set up. You can also let us know ahead of time that you’re coming. Drop us a line at hello@kankanindy.com.

Where can I get merch?

Merch is available only at the Kan-Kan box office!

I have more questions!

That’s a statement! But you will reach a real person at hello@kankanindy.com.
