In the mood for learning? We always are! That’s why Kan-Kan Cinema loves to include educational experiences as a part of our regular and series programming. Often, we have chances where you can learn more about film, giving you knowledge and takeaways that will stay with you long after you’ve left the theater:
Post-Screening Talks
Our most common type of educational opportunity. We often host dialogues and conversations about the films that we play. This includes:
- Q&As with filmmakers, cast members, and special guests
- Educational conversations about film genres, filmmakers, and film history; we often host discussions after our yearly Auteur series!
- Community chats and discussions about local issues
Film Scholars & Lectures
Sometimes, we invite super smart people to teach lessons before our films. Previous talks have been hosted by local professors, industry professionals, and passionate cinephiles. Here are some examples of lectures we’ve done:
- Noirvember genre talks: learn about Film Noir from a curator of Turner Classic Movies
- Collaborations with Butler faculty to host a Contemporary Spanish Language Film series
Cinema Tours/Youth Filmmaker Education
We often host schools and after-school clubs to come see our cinema, explain how our state of the art projectors & sound systems work, and a little bit about nonprofit arthouse cinema & independent film.
